It is an achievement that stands the test of time. It's not a secret why Milos Forman is highly regarded as true craftsman. He sets a perfect balance of comedy and drama. It can be uplifting in one moment, then turn downright depressing the next. There's nothing I could add but echo what's been said before. I think this film should not be missed. It took me a second rewatch a few years later to realize the importance of this film. Essentially, this is a film about freedom. Spiritual and physicial and how absolutely necessary it is for humans to "break free" from the chains that hold us down. The institution is a perfect metaphor for these chains.

He has this amazing smile, which complements his acting capabilities. I haven't seen many actors using such a simple thing in the most powerful manner, than Nicholson does. There are a few others that come to my mind; Kevin Spacy, Robin Williams, and probably Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. He shines like a jewel in this film. The whole setting is perfect for a guy of his abilities. Surrounded with a bunch of brain'n'ball-less group, he only wants them all to act normally. But his idea about mentally-fit are a bit perverse. The script, the storyline, the direction, the mode, the cinematography, the acting, superb. simply out-of-this world. One of my all time favorites.

Did not understand and appreciate the message in the movie first. I had to read reviews and articles on the movie to understand that the author was talking about life in general. Its not about the mental asylum only. It was fun to watch Danny DeVito play one of his first roles. Pace of the movie is excellent. Liked excellent portrayal of Nurse Ratched. Some excellent camera angle work can be appreciated. You feel attached to the patients due to their acting skills. Even the ending is not straight forward one has to conceptualize and understand why and what happened. This is one of the great film endings.
